The Putnam Valley Market has truly earned their place as a major fixture in our Town. While other businesses have occupied that space throughout the Town’s history, providing supplies and consumables to both Putnam Valley’s residents as well as its season visitors, Nino Santucci took ownership of the Putnam Valley Market and began operations in 1988. And for the past 27 years, they have served the Town well and become an essential part of our community – combining the best of both a 21st century grocery/deli, and a 19th century general store.
As everyone who shops there knows, The Putnam Valley Market is not merely a place to go to pick up
a quick sandwich - and yet people certainly do. Thousands of sandwiches have been crafted there...
hundreds of thousands in 27 years. It's where Scouts stop off to pick up lunch before heading up to
camp. It's where Town employees and laborers alike come to get noontime meal before going back
to work. It's where kids come to get ice cream ont heir way home from the game. And it's where
a family member is likely to be asked to stop off on the way home from the office to pick up an essential item or two needed for dinner - or perhaps the entire dinner!
Hot meals, cold drinks, delicious pizza and more are always available.
And yet the Putnam Valley Market is much more.
It is our grocery store, our caterer, our cup of coffee in the morning and our Italian Ices on a hot
summer afternoon. It is where we get our newspapers to keep up with what's going on in the world
and the region. It's where we meet with our neighbors to catch up on each other's lives and events
around town. It's where we can look at an open bulletin board and learn about a house for a rent, a boat for sale, a lost pet or an upcoming pancake breakfast. It's a place where you can get a winter hat, a roll of scotch tape, a bag of rock salt, a bundle of firewood, and a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich,
all without walking three feet from the front counter. And at least once in a while, they'll turn one of us into a millionaire. Although, to be fair, "you've got to be in it to win it."
